About the artist Ulisses Lociks Cavalcante de Gusmão

"I perceive my work as a 'line'-work: more concerned with textures and atmospheres, than thematics. I use the images/figures as a stage, the line is my protagonist."

Ulisses Lociks, born in Maceió, Brazil, studied Visual Arts at the University of Brasília (UnB), Brazil. After his graduation he spent a few years experimenting with various techniques, such as installation, sculpture and drawing, while maintaining a small production of woodcuts. Since 2013/2014 he dedicates himself exclusively to woodcut.

A variety of his works were presented at various national Brazilian exhibitions as well as at international printmaking biennials, such as at the "International Print Biennal Lodz" in Poland and the "Bienal Sul Americana de Gravura e Arte" in Argentina. After running a small independent printmaking gallery/studio in Lisbon, Portugal, he currently lives and works in Vienna, Austria.
