Working with British landscape painter Noel Paine, children will make their own series of lino prints based on sketches done in the landscape.
This course will provide children a straightforward and exciting introduction to printmaking, in which they will produce a series of up to 10 three-colour-prints.
The course will start with some basic sketching in the landscape of Schönbrunn gardens. In the second session the children will make a selection from these drawings and create a composition for their lino print. Working from the sketches within the landscape allows for some children to be more literal in their work, other's perhaps more invented or abstract.
The children will learn to use lino cutting tools. After the first layer of ink is dry they will be able to add more colour to each print. Printmaking is process based, allowing the children to understand mixing printing ink and selecting various coloured paper to learn colour relationships. There will also be the opportunity for the children to make a simple portfolio, to hold the prints and original drawings within. Noel will also introduce his own work as a guide into working from a Landscape theme.
This course is highly adaptable to all levels of ability and aimed at children aged 8 and above. The focus will be on understanding simple shape and form as well as mixing colour. A fantastic introduction to the art of printmaking!
