We make boxes out of cardboard, quite simple and inconspicuous from the outside - but with beautiful gardens inside. This gardens are hidden, only through a small spy hole one will be able to see them. As these will be secret gardens, the outside can be simple, contrasting all the beauty inside!
Children will learn baisc design and planning of a 3D-project, how to cut card and build constructions. They will learn watercolour, the importance of mixing colours and how to record "information" with a pencil quickly in the landscape. Finally this workshop aims to develop a childs love of drawing from nature.
We will begin the project with a visit to a park in Vienna (yet to be decided, most likely Schönbrunn) where the children will sketch trees, bushes, flowers, pathways... These small sketches will be used as an inspiration for their secret gardens. Back at the studio at Zeichenfabrik, the children will plan their boxes and decide how they wish their garden to look inside the box. The children will then paint all their boxes and carefully design the inside, using watercolours and coloured crayons. The children will be able to add small animals, creatures and charachters entereing the box from the sides. The gardens can be based on reality or fantasy: the children will be allowed to let their imaginations take over!
This course is highly adaptable to all levels of ability and aimed at children aged 8 to 12.
