Global
Collection by Anne Suttner
The "Global" art series is a painterly exploration of our world's cultural diversity, inspired by a bygone era of photography. Its source material consists of images from a collection of "National Geographic" magazines dated between 1976 and 1984—a time when Kodak photography documented the lives and traditions of people around the globe in a static, portrait-like manner. These images aimed to introduce viewers to the lifestyles of other cultures, long before globalization connected and visually unified the world.
The series captures this spirit: moments of tranquility and contemplation that have become rare in today's flood of digital images. Each piece is created with gouache on cardboard, measuring 21 x 29.7 cm, which underlines the intimate, almost documentary character of the source material.
