About Ulisses Lociks

"I view my practice as 'line work'—more concerned with textures and atmospheres than themes. I use figures as a stage; the line is my protagonist."

Ulisses Lociks was born in Maceió, Brazil, and studied Visual Arts at the University of Brasília (UnB). After graduating, he spent a few years experimenting with various media, such as installation, sculpture, and drawing, while continuing to produce woodcuts on a smaller scale. Since 2014, he has dedicated himself exclusively to woodcut.

His work has been shown in numerous exhibitions in Brazil as well as at international printmaking biennials, such as the International Print Triennial in Krakow/Lodz and the "Bienal Sul Americana de Gravura e Arte" in Argentina. After running an independent printmaking studio in Lisbon, Portugal, and spending several years in Vienna, Austria, he currently lives and works in Paripueira, Brazil.
