Water Flowers
Collection by Saverio Tonoli
Subtle colour washes, a freedom of form moving between the organic and the clearly defined, interesting variations, and imaginative floral motifs emerge - if only for a limited time - as ink interacts with the water's surface.
Ebru painting stems from a traditional Turkish technique, historically used for decoration, marbled paper, and beautiful paintings of flowers and birds. The Ebru process generates specific forms and patterns by painting on water, using substances that allow pigments to float on the surface.
Saverio Tonoli has revisited Ebru, adapting it to the unique behaviour of ink, allowing its complex nature and micro-textures to be showcased. This painting-on-water technique resembles a printing process, thus making it possible to compose the image over different sessions.
